Just to let everyone know that Keith came home yesterday. Thanks for your concern and good wishes. The back operation went really well. It is the fourth he has had, all different ones, L4/L5, C4/C5, L5/S1 and this time L3/L4, and all successful, but he has recovered particularly well from this one. His hospital stay was prolonged somewhat as he had a problem with his urethra immediately post op. which meant his bladder was only partially draining so he had to have a catheter put in. The on duty doctor couldn't do it because there was a partial blockage so the urologist had to come and do it with a wicked hooked instrument called an 'assister'!. By chance it was Dr Ende who did Keith's kidney operation who is very nice. The catheter was finally removed at midnight on Tuesday so that they could check that everything was working okay and then do a couple of ultrasounds to make sure he was voiding completely and still be able to come home yesterday, which he did. He's a bit sore and tired after the journey - Lisa (our daughter-in-law) drove up and fetched us - but otherwise fine. He has to go back and see Dr Sheehy the back surgeon in six weeks and also Dr Ende at some point so that he can do further investigations into the problem with the urethra, though he thinks it is most likely scar tissue from his prostate operation and he should be able to deal with that.
